Easter Seals offers a comprehensive Early Intervention program serving children ages birth to three years old. Part of this program includes screening children to make sure they are developing appropriately. Easter Seals is proud to offer free screenings to children age six weeks to thirty-four months.
Currently already available at Easter Seals LaSalle and Bureau Counties.
What Takes Place at a Screening When you arrive, you will be asked to sign a release (giving us permission to do the screening) and complete a questionnaire. The two-page questionnaire asks general questions related to your child's past and present health, specific concerns you may have (if any) and yes/no questions regarding activities that your child may be doing (such as drinking from a cup or walking independently). When you are done with the questionnaire, the therapist will play with your child using specific toys. They will then discuss any concerns they may have. You will be with your child the entire time in case any questions arise. The appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. At the end of that time, you will be sent home with a copy of the screening test, a written report discussing your child's overall development and a folder containing handouts with activities that you can work on at home to help promote age-appropriate development. If the therapist has concerns regarding your child's development, she may recommend a re-screen in 3 months, or further evaluations.
If interested in a free developmental screening, please contact us.
Is my child developing the skills they should? Babies grow at an amazing rate. Besides weight and height, they also grow in the areas of physical development, such as rolling over and crawling; speech development, such as reaching for nearby toys and stacking blocks. Please visit our Child Development Milestones to see if your child is developing the skills they should. We encourage you to work on these activities with your child and contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Helpful reminders to keep your child healthy: Keep your child's immunizations current Routine doctor visits Healthy meals/snacks Always buckle your child in a car seat when he/she is riding in the car
