The speech and language therapy department of Easter Seals DuPage and the Fox Valley Region represents more than 50 years of experience in treating speech and language disorders. We provide remediation services for sound articulation difficulties, stuttering, voice disorders and language impairments.
Treatment for children with impairments in feeeding/swallowing/ respiratory function, oral-motor function, articulation, fluency and communication disorders which are secondary to, but not limited to autism/PDD, verbal dyspraxia, neuromuscular dysfunction (CP), Down syndrome, prenatal drug exposure and prematurity.
In addition to individual therapy, the following programs are offered:
- A summertime program for children with PDD/Autism which incorporates OT, play music therapies and group OT and ST
- An innovative summertime program for adolescents with disabilities which integrates therapy with community access training
- A language group therapy for children in which a speech-language pathologist targets goals specific to the children's daily living needs in language, articulation and social skills
- Home programs and individualized education for families to promote carryover
Our speech and language therapy staff includes therapists trained in neuro-developmental treatment and oral-pharyngeal motor techniques. Because of the medical risks associated with providing services to children with feeding/swallowing and respiratory dysfunction it is critical for these children to be treated by a therapist with extensive training and experience in treating such impairments. In addition, our staff has experience un augmentative/alternative communication.
